Cloudy nails!

Hey loves!

Your girl is on a quest to find a new camera. Today’s pictures were taken with my sister’s camera. I’ll be using this in the meantime but I have to say that the iphone 4S was way easier to work with…

Today’s manicure is inspired by the ever so talented Jane from Nailside. After seeing mani pics of her cloud manicure I finally decided to give it a go and I’m pretty pleased with the results. I started with 3 coats of Essie Tart Deco. The formula on this one is a little thick and it left bald spots so a 3rd coat was necessary to even everything out. Next I used Essie Mint Candy Apple to  create my first cloud. After letting that dry I painted the same pattern a little lower on the nail with Sally Hansen’s Whirlwind White and then again with Silver by GOSH.

I added one coat of OPI’s I Juggle Men for a little shimmer and a few dots with white acrylic paint. Seal with your favorite topcoat and there you have it!

Besos!

I can’t wait to try this with other colors.

Living for the weekend...

Hey loves,

I don’t know how things have been going for you guys but I have had one hell of a week and I can’t WAIT for the weekend to start. Let’s just say that I’m happy to have made it past hump day without going completely postal. * Queue Monica sample *

“Just one of dem days…
That a girl goes through…”

Singing is always better than moping. BOOM!

Today I want to show you swatches of another polish that was a part of my last haul of 2011. Color Club’s Love Em Leave Em is a suble but lovely holographic polish. With my skintone it works kinda like a nude. It’s interesting but not super in your face. Love this.

Cheers to the freakin’ weekend!

This polish is called what now?!?

Hey loves!

I wanted to show you swatches of a polish that I received in my very last haul of 2011.  I didn’t own a whole lot of Color Club polishes before this haul but they were on sale for dirt cheap so I had to scoop them up! The lacquer of the day is Color Club’s Pucci-licious. Love the polish, kinda feel weird about the name… I dunno how it’s pronounced but when I first bought it, it reminded me a lot of a not so cute word that can refer to a woman’s “goods” or a small cat. You know what I’m talking about.

This shade is beautiful and so is the formula. I love Color Club. They have a lovely selection of colors and the product is always easy to work with. I attained full opacity in two coats.

Enjoy!

The switch up! One coat of Essie’s Shine of the Times and one coat of China Glaze’s Matte Magic.

Show me your stripes!

Hola!

I just wanted to show you guys a super easy manicure that I decided to recreate after I saw one of my classmates wearing it (thanks Cynthia!). There isn’t much to this look. All you’ll need is white polish (I’m using SH Whirlwind White), a black striper pen and a good topcoat.

Simply start with 2 coats of your favorite white and then, using your black striper pen, make lines in whichever direction you like. Try to keep your hand as steady as you can. I recommend moving the nail as opposed to the striper. You’ll have more control that way.  All you’ll need now is some topcoat! Try to go for a thick one because the key to avoiding smudges in your design is having enough top coat between your brush and the nail. Working in the same direction as your design will also help avoid smudging. Piece of cake!

The vertical stripes remind me of Beetlejuice. Ha!

Happy Pink Wednesday

Hey loves!

Today’s manicure is perfect for Pink Wednesday and for Valentine’s Day. I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Presto Pink. Then I sponged China Glaze’s Emotion all over the nail in a random pattern. Once that dried I stamped cute little hearts all over my nails. That’s it folks!

Besos!

Love is in the air?

Hi guys!

Hope everyone is doing well. I’d feel better if it wasn’t for this darn Canadian weather. Something about winter just gets me in a funk. I just want to hibernate until spring! In order to get myself out of my grouchy mood I decided come up with a look for Valentine’s Day. I’m gonna let you guys in on a little secret… I think Valentine’s Day is lame. I need a holiday to love someone?!? lol Sounds pretty ridiculous to me. That’s why this manicure has a little twist to it. It’s the anti-Valentine’s day manicure!

I painted my ring fingers and thumbs in black with Nero from Gosh and all the others in Fire by Revlon (Top Speed collection).  I then went to town with the deco. I added one coat of Dorothy by NYX Girls on the ring fingers and thumbs, lip prints on the indexes,  black roses on the middle fingers and broken hearts on the pinkies.

Enjoy!

What’s love got to do with it?

Oh baby!

Hola!

Today’s manicure is a fun one.  A new year also brings new life and this is exactly what this look is about. My cousin is expecting a little boy in May and a girlfriend of mine is expecting a baby girl next month so I thought I’d make a baby shower themed mani. I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Blue Away on the pinky, middle finger and thumb. Next I did 2 coats of OPI’s Pink Friday on the ring finger and index. I freehanded the words Oh baby! on the middle finger (using acrylic paint) and stamped cute little footprints everywhere else. Once everything dried I added a coat of OPI’s I Juggle Men for some shimmer and finished with a coat of Sèche Vite.

Fun, cute and very baby shower appropriate.

Mattified.

Speaking of life, things were extra lively at my house when my niece Jojo came by the other day. My sister-in-law had locked them out of the house by accident so while she dealt with the locksmith; Jojo and I had some girl time! I’m the only chick at my house so I’m always up for girl time. She picked her own colors: OPI’s Swimsuit Nailed It! and Nicole by OPI’s Snow-man of my Dreams. To make the look extra special, she had me add a fimo star on the ring finger. I don’t know any other 7 year olds rocking nails this cool. My dad wouldn’t even let me wear nail polish at that age (boo!).

Cute combo Jojo!

Introducing The Bin.

Hey Loves,

Today’s polish comes from The Bin. Let me show you what I’m talking about:

That was The Bin. It’s where I keep some of my polish overflow if you will (notice that I said some – lol). Old polish, new polish, drug store polish… All of my racks are full so this bin holds the extras. There are lots of untries in here and my goal this year is to swatch as many of them as I can while trying to find a better way to store them. Having them all jumbled up discourages me from even attempting to go through the pile. I’m not a neat freak (by any means) but junky piles of polish drive me bananas! I know I’ve got some gems somewhere in there so I’ll be making an effort to post some swatches weekly.

Might as well start right now with Maybelline Cool Couture. Click on the pictures to see the lovely shimmer.

It's 2012. Ditch the baggage.

Hey Loves,

I was at work the other day watching some Twitter drama unfold between 2 young women (it was a slow day okay) over some falling out that they had like 5 years ago and it got me thinking…

When you have a problem with someone, how long do you wait before addressing it? Is it ever too late to confront someone? What if your hurt stems from something that happened years ago?

People have beef. I get it. However what I don’t get it why some people just can’t let go of the past! Why hold on to something that you cannot change? Why allow it to make you bitter? If you have a problem with someone, take it up with them as soon as possible. Don’t sit on your feelings for years and then think that the person who hurt you is going to be open to resurrecting drama you guys had back in 1974.

I, for one, think that drama should have an expiry date. Yes. An expiry date. That means that that if we have an argument I give you 2 weeks to let me know how you feel. After that we just have to agree to let the bullshit die.  Don’t come at me 5 years later talking about how you need to clear the air and get stuff off your chess. I’m just not hearing it.

Life is waaayyy too short to dwell on a painful past. You live. You learn. You keep it moving. What you don’t do is lose sleep or waste time thinking about what someone else did to you because reality is that that person is out there somewhere too busy to think about you.

Ahhhh memories...

Hi guys!

I hope everyone is doing well! 2012 is off to a good start and I’m thankful for that. I’m currently working on a few things that have me MUCHO excited! I can’t speak on it yet because I don’t want to run my mouth until things are set in stone but I’ll be sure to share the good news with you all when the time comes.

Okay, okay! Enough of my vague ramblings! lol  Today’s mani should bring back some childhood memories but if it doesn’t, I need you to know that you were deprived. LOL

Who do you know that didn’t love or at least like Mickey Mouse as kid? He might not have been my all time favorite but I did indeed think he was adorable. I achieved this look by starting with 2 coats OPI’s Color So Hot It Berns on my ring fingers and 2 coats of Essie’s Sugar Daddy on all the others. Next I simply freehanded a French tip with the same red, added a few dots here and there, made a Micky Mouse head out of acrylic and voilà! Childhood nostalgia.

Besos!

Pink Wednesday with Zoya!

Hey guys!

For this edition of Pink Wednesday I decided to wear Mieko by Zoya.  This is a beautiful reddish pink with gold shimmer in it. It kind of reminds me of China Glaze’s Strawberry fields. All of the Zoya polishes I’ve tried so far have been super easy to apply and Mieko was no different. This is 2 coats topped off with 1 coat of Sèche Vite.

That’s it for now!

The Switch Up!

Hey loves!

It’s my first day back at work since the holidays and I’m just not up for it. Got that song stuck in my head: “I don’t wanna work, I just wanna stay in the bed all daaaaayyyyy…”  Urgh! Did I also mention that I’m late for work?
The look I want to show you today proves that a bland manicure can always ways be taken to the next level even with just a few subtle changes.  Both polishes, Take the Stage (reddish copper) and Rising Star (orangey gold), come from  OPI’s 2010 Winter collection but I had yet to try them. I thought the gold and copper would look nice together so I used Rising Star on the ring finger and Take the Stage on all the others. Nice shades but the look kinda bored me. I had to make this more interesting so I decided to go with a slight modification of the manicure I had done on a friend a few days ago. She wanted to recreate the look Rihanna wore in her You Da One video and that inspired me to create the same pattern using Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out and to add a few rhinestones. Ahhhhh! Much better don’t you think?
Enjoy,
